Shanestack.com is not associated with HorseTrac in any way, we just felt that our readers would be interested in finding out more about this technology.
HORSEtrac™ is the only national tracking database designated exclusively to the microchipped equine spieces. Operators are available 24 hours a day. Owners, veterinarians and law enforcement officials have come to rely upon the protection and fast action of HORSEtrac™.
The AVID® microchip which is the technology behind HorseTrac is a tiny computer chip which has an identification number programmed into it. The chip is encased in smooth, strong biocompatible glass, and is small enough to fit into a hypodermic needle. The tiny rice-sized microchip is quickly and easily injected into the nuchal ligament, where it will remain for the life of the horse.
This one-of-a-kind number cannot be lost, altered or removed. The microchip has no power supply, battery, or moving parts. It operates by receiving an invisible radio wave signal from the scanner. The chip is designed with an extended operating life and is guaranteed for the life of the animal. Once injected, the microchip cannot be felt with the hand and it stays safely in place. The chip requires no care. It does not pass through or out of the body.
A special scanner is used to read the chip. When the scanner is passed over the horse’s neck, the chip sends its number back to the scanner to be displayed in the viewing window. The animal feels nothing as his chip is being read.
The interaction between chip and scanner takes less than a second, allowing you to identify your horse quickly and on demand.
Once the horse has been implanted with an AVID chip, the chip should be ‘registered’. Horse description, name, owner information and alternate contact information go into HORSEtrac™, the 24/7 disaster and recovery network.
