Equine Fly Allergies
One of the worst allergies that your horse can have is an allergy to flies. Allergic reactions to flies are very hard to avoid and preventing them is nearly impossible. Flies are everyway and keeping them away from your horse is a difficult, but necessary task. If your horse has this type of allergy or is really bothered by flies, then try the following steps:
- Keep fly traps up in the barn to reduce the amounts of flies where your horse sleeps. Fly strips or traps like the EZ Trap Fly Trap are great for luring and catching flies.
- Use a fly spray on your horse to repel flies away from your horse.
- Keep fly wipes handy when riding on your horse. If you notice that the spray is no longer effective or you have forgotten to apply the fly spray on your horse, try using a wipe.
- Put a
fly mask or
fly sheet on your horse to provide extra protection against flies.
- Use leg wraps to help keep the flies away from your horses legs.
- Make sure that you have a waste control system in your barn. Remove waste from the stall often to help keep the flies away.
