Pigs should be observed on a routine schedule, at least once a day but more frequently during special events such as farrowing, post-surgical recovery or recovery from illness. Waterers and feeders must be checked to make sure pigs have adequate access to water and feed. They should be easy for the pigs to use, and should be set up so as to prevent feed wastage, minimize contamination by feces and urine and not injure the pigs.
